Nantahala River Vacation

North Carolina is full of winter vacation hot spots but one of the best places to visit might be the Nantahala River Gorge.  If you do not mind cooler temperatures the mountains of North Carolina are one of the best places to take a winter vacation.  In the Nantahala Gorge area there are many outdoor activities that may spark your interest.  Some of the more popular winter outdoor activities include whitewater rafting, mountain biking, snow skiing, hiking and fly fishing.  The area is an outdoor lovers paradise so be sure to do check it out for your next winter vacation.

One of the main attractions of the Nantahala River Gorge area is the Nantahala River itself.  The river is extremely popular for whitewater rafting as several hundred thousand people float down the river each year.  In the winter months you will need to make sure to pack some warm clothes and possibly even rent a wetsuit as the water is approximately 48 degrees year round.  With the air temperature not being much warmer you can imagine that the two hour trip could chill your bones.  It is an adventure that might be worth taking if you want a new experience.
