Nantahala River Rafting is a Fun and Exciting Summer Vacation

Nantahala River Rafting, located in the Western part of North Carolina, offers a very fun and exciting summer vacation, especially for groups or families.  There are several companies to use when rafting the Nantahala River but the easiest and most convenient is Brookside Campground and Rafting.  Brookside is only one mile from the “put-in” area so you can literally be on the river in less than 15 minutes upon arrival.  Brookside also offers trips at any time; when you get there, they take you to the river.  You do not have to wait for the next shuttle to and from the river.  To top it all off, Brookside has some of the most affordable prices on the river.  To get an extra discount call Brookside at 1-800-848-7238 and use the promotional code JRW. You can also email us at NantahalaRiverVacation@gmail.com to get more information on rafting the Nantahala River with Brookside.

This is a great picture depicting the excitement of the Nantahala Falls.  The grand finale of the two hour rafting trip is a class three rapid that is know to send many tourists and guides swimming.  Overall this is the largest rapid on the river that is sure to get you nice and wet.  When deciding on which size boat to take down the Nantahala River, you must first decide if you want a single or double ducky as shown below or a boat that holds up to eight people.  Please realize that the heavier the boat, the more difficult it is to navigate.  Some of the most fun you will have on the Nantahala is taking a single duck and going solo.  Many couples enjoy taking a double duck to enjoy the ride together.

If you decide to take a single or double ducky, please be aware that you are more likely to take a dive into that warm 48 degree Nantahala River water as these little guys are easy to flip, especially in the falls area.  If you are timid about taking the Nantahala Falls in a ducky, do not be alarmed, this happens every single day.  Please just inform your driver and he will be glad to swing to the top of the falls and pick you up.  Many drivers will go ahead and take the boat down the falls by themselves, but some will just throw it back on the trailer as they do not want the following sequence to happen.

Do not be alarmed at the sight of these picture as there are MANY people in the Nantahala Falls Area to help you get to shore or back in your boat.  Every single day that rafters go down the river someone falls out in the falls.  You might be a little embarrassed and your friends and family will have pictures to laugh at for life, but it is all in good fun.  If it makes you feel any better, the following sequence of events is composed of two “experienced” guides that have worked on the Nantahala River for several years.  I am not sure what this says about their guiding ability, but without further ado….

For a fun an exciting trip like these two young men had, make sure to contact Brookside at 1-800-848-7238 and use the promotional code JRW.  You can also email us at NantahalaRiverVacation@gmail.com for any additional information you may need. Brookside also has camping facilities for anyone who wants to get the true outdoor feel.  There are many other activities in the area such as hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, and sight seeing so you will always have something to do when you visit the Nantahala River.  Many groups that enjoy this area are Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops as well as Church and Family groups; remember that you will also receive a discount as group rates apply at Brookside.

I urge anyone visiting to this site to post questions, comments or concerns.  If you have been to the Nantahala River and enjoyed it, let us know how it went.  If you had a bad experience, please let us know and we will try to fix it.  The easiest way to fix those bad experiences is to use Brookside next time.  They do their best to create a family environment and offer you the best rafting trip you can take on the Nantahala River.

  1. Awesome trip. This is reminding me my recent “Memorial Day trip” to Cherokee, NC. It was also fun too. Lots of crashes through trees, getting stuck on rocks and get thrown into rafting river cold water. But definitely an interesting and relaxing aderline raising experience. Thanks to share those memory awakening photos.
